Children

For those of us with children, we well know that one of the secrets of having a good holiday, is that our children enjoy themselves. We have 3 young children and have done everything we can to make sure that your children are not an afterthought when you come to stay with us.

We also realise that the local area has to offer your children fun and exciting things to do - they won't be disappointed here!

PoolLes Tilleuls has a 5m above ground pool, whilst Samacoitsea has a 16m x 8m in ground pool. Both have great views of the surrounding countryside and towards the mountains. There are lots of inflatable toys and balls to play with.

Sand castlesChildren love the beach. Jumping in the waves, making sandcastles, body surfing, ice creams - it's just all part of the perfect holiday.
The Atlantic coast around Biarritz has some of the best beaches in Europe - very clean, interesting waves, clear water, lifeguards during the summer - all a short drive away.

Playground Children love swinging, climbing and balancing - it's healthy, develops coordination and tires them out so we can have a quiet drink!
At Samacoitsea there is a childrens playground as in the picture to the right. Near to Les Tilleuls we have an adventure playground in the village.

There are 3 excellent water parks in easy driving distance. Tube rides, wave pools, steep slides, even a "kamikaze" - really good fun at reasonable prices. The no.1 choice for a day out for our children!

FunfairThere are many excellent funfairs at the festivals in the region, mainly in the summer. During the Fetes de Bayonne, one of the biggest funfairs in France is installed on the banks of the river. Rides for all ages - including some truly frightening ones that fortunately 5 year old girls are not allowed on, otherwise her Dad would have to go on too!

Walking with childrenThere are superb walks that can be easily done with children in the area. Straight from the door, you have quiet countryside, or you can visit the local farmer to collect the milk and eggs. There are well signposted walks along the coast or you could walk to a refuge for an overnight trip. Our 8 year old daughter did this for the first time this year and is very proud!

KartingWe have a very good local karting track just off jct.4 of the A64. There are normal and competition karts for the over 12s, whilst the younger drivers can use the quads on a specially designed track. There is also a small animal park.
There are several other karting tracks in the area.

Adventure parkThere are several "Parc d'Aventures" in the area - jungle bridges, tyrolean traverses, rope climbs etc. There is a very good one near the beach in Anglet 20 mins. away that also offers inflatable climbing walls and trampolines. It caters from ages 3 upwards.

SkiingAs the mountains are so close, it is great to be able to take advantage of the snow during winter and spring time to go skiing and sledging. There are multi-lingual ski schools, and slopes that cater for all standards and ages. There are also creches and kids clubs that can occupy your children whilst you grab a few runs!
We have plenty of sledges that you can borrow if you decide to go sledging for a day.

Babies! We all know going on holiday with small children can be an extreme exercise in packing - there's not much room left for your own clothes!
For that reason we have tried to supply as many things here, so that you don't need to bring them. We have high-chairs, cots, plastic plates, cutlery and cups, sterilizers, baby toys, listeners and many others.

The guestbook

"One could not ask for more welcoming hosts.... From the moment we arrived they were on hand to offer advice about days out, providing tips that only a local would know. They gave us maps and guide books and even lent us a couple of sledges so that we could enjoy the last of the snow at a nearby ski resort. The children made Cameron (4 years old) feel at home, always inviting him to join in their games and showing him around the gardens, barns and most importantly the horses.
We were included in a family easter egg hunt, which went on for many hours after all the eggs were found, and gave us a chance to spend time with many locals (testing my French to the limit!) We have every intention of going back soon."

Alistair, Amy and Cameron, Bedfordshire
